Communication Strategy During Labour Disruption
Overview
In times of labour disruption, accurate and timely communication is essential. CTR’s approach is designed to ensure staff, families, and communities receive consistent messages that are clear, compassionate, and aligned with provincial guidance.
How CTR Will Communicate
- Immediate and Ongoing Staff Communication: Emails will be provided to all staff and then specific communication with various employee groups will be maintained throughout any labour disruption.
- CTR Website: A standing news story will be updated frequently as the central point of contact for families.
- MyCTR Internal Site: This site (where you are now) will serve as the central hub for staff communication, with FAQs, operational updates, and guidance organized by category.
- Social Media: Updates will also be shared on CTR’s social media platforms (@ctrcatholic), when necessary, to reach families quickly, especially for last-minute changes (similar to snow day notifications).
Where Questions Go
- All questions from families and staff should be directed to the Director of Communications who will triage them to an appropriate respondent.
- Staff are not expected to answer detailed questions about negotiations or bargaining. Please redirect families to CTR’s official updates on our website.
Expectations for Staff
- Share factual and concise information regarding the strike, such as the following. Teachers across the province voted against the agreement and are very likely to engage in a strike starting on Monday, October 6. Regular classroom instruction continues until that time. Schools will be closed to students starting on Monday, October 6. Encourage parents to seek childcare arrangements if needed.
- Do not share unverified information with families or on social media.
- Use the talking points provided in the Staff FAQ and Guidance for Family Conversations section.
- If parents ask questions you cannot answer, a simple response is:
“CTR will provide official updates as soon as they are available. Please check the CTR website or communications from the division for the latest information.”
